Imran Khan all set for his forthcoming film 'Delhi Belly'

While one wonders if Bollywood actor Imran Khan’s decision to file a PIL against the new law, that refrains people below 21 from consuming alcohol, is another marketing ploy for his forthcoming, Delhi Belly, the actor seems to be pretty focused on the film itself. “There’re some coincidences working for me,” he says. “My first film, Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na released in July, 2008 and my last hit, I Hate Luv Storys, hit the screens last July. Now, Delhi Belly is going to be on the screens this July. I think July is the month for me,” he muses.

“In the film, Kunal Roy Kapoor, Vir Das and I play classmates and flatmates. But all of us seem to have reached a dead end when it comes to our professions and keep hoping that something better comes our way. Meanwhile, Kapoor eats a dish of chicken outside, which gives him a Delhi belly (a slang used by foreigners when their tummy goes wrong while in India). Subsequently, the three of us get caught in a situation triggered by the Delhi belly,” informs Khan.

There’s no denying that this is a very different film fromKhan’s previous romantic outings. Moreover, it’s an English language film that might only cater to a niche audience. “I’ve never played a Tashi before, but what’s the fun in playing similar roles? I credit all my success to commercial films, but at the same time, it’s my duty to keep pushing the boundaries of commercial cinema,” he explains, adding, “Also, it’s an English language film meant for an adult audience. This could mean I’m missing out on a major fan base. But it could also mean that I’m reaching out to newer audience.”

Co-incidentally, Delhi Belly also marks the 10th year of Aamir Khan Productions and the family is all out to get this one right, as actor Aamir Khan shot a promotional video with the three young men; and his wife and director Kiran Rao too shot the rap number, Switty Tera Pyar Chaida. Working with Kunal and Vir was a piece of cake for Imran, thanks to the two weeks of workshop they attended together. “I’m a strong believer of workshops — why spend the producers money over gelling on the sets when it can be done before?” he quips.
