I’m fed up of sequels, says Riteish Deshmukh

Actor Riteish Deshmukh may have kickstarted this year with a solo hit to his credit with wife actor Genelia Deshmukh, but the months ahead will see the actor star in as many as four sequels, including Housefull 2, Masti 2, Kya Superkool Hain Hum.

Considering that the actor in the past too has had a rather successful track record of being associated with sequels, it’s easy to assume that his romcom Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya too will have one. However, Riteish insists otherwise. “I’m fed-up of sequels and I’m definitely not looking at creating a record for doing the most number of sequels,” laughs the actor, who could easily be crowned the sequel king. On a serious note, Riteish adds that deciding a sequel is a call that the filmmakers will have to take. “Not that I’m against sequels or multistarrers, I enjoy them, but no as of now, there’s no sequel being planned for Tere Naal,” he reveals.

Admitting that the success of the film has indeed helped him cement his standing as a solo actor, Riteish says that what he’s more excited about is the variety being offered now. “I think filmmakers are finally looking at me for roles other than comedy and that’s a huge jump for me as an actor… Being considered for roles that would earlier not be there, I think it makes all the difference,” he shares. Incidentally, the actor has never been averse to experimenting as far as roles or genres go and has been much appreciated in them too. “Yes, but appreciation doesn’t earn you a role here. A hit is what it takes for the market to consider you,” explains Riteish.

Now that Riteish’s had a hit with wife Genelia, are they looking at doing more films together? “No, nothing like that. Gen and I are not a package deal as actors,” smiles Riteish, as he adds that more than working, it’s their honeymoon that the newly-weds are looking forward to. Refusing to reveal the destination, he does let it on that it’s a place of Genelia’s choice. “First the film, then my brother’s wedding and then back to the shoots, now I’m hoping to take a break with Genelia, as soon as possible,” signs off Riteish.
