I’m extremely anxious: Amole Gupte

Filmmaker Amole Gupte’s love for kids and their concerns was evident in Taare Zammen Pe, for which he had penned the script. And in his soon to release Stanley ka Dabba, which is a leaf out of his own school days, 40 years back, he talks about “tiffins” and “recesses”.

The story and screenplay of the film, he says was written way back in 2008. “I remember discussing with my wife that the film is not going anywhere. But I let it grow on its own,” he says. That’s when Gupte started working on the movie from scratch, this time in a unique way.

“I went to Asha Kapoor — who was my head mistress — and told her that I want to start a cinema and theatre workshop in the school and she was supportive.” The workshop went on for a year and a half, for four hours each. And by end of it he had a film in hand! “I was ecstatic when it happened and I’ve decided to follow this for all my future projects.”

The filmmaker says that he can best portray on screen what he has experienced in real life. “Thrillers and horrors are out of my reach, simply because I have never experienced it,” adds Gupte.
Ask him what’s next on his mind and he says, “Right now, I’m extremely anxious about Stanley’s release but I haven’t thought about my next film yet.”
