I’m a strict teacher, says Hema Malini

Actress Hema Malini says that she is happy with the way her actress daughter Esha Deol’s career has shaped up; reveals that her younger daughter Ahana is writing a script

I’m a strict teacher, says Hema Malini

She attained the ‘dream girl’ tag many years ago when she stepped on to the silver screen and fell in love with its charm. For her daughters now, Hema Malini is the dream mom.

And if all goes well, the actress may even take up the role that daughter Ahana Deol is in the process of writing, specifically keeping her mother in mind. “Yes, Ahana is writing a script for me, let’s see how it turns out. I may be doing the film too,” informs the proud mother.

The actress is now looking forward to her directorial venture, with her older daughter Esha Deol in the lead, to hit theatres.

“I’m very happy with the way Esha’s career has shaped up because one has to keep doing different things and not limit oneself to one role. She’s a fine artist, a wonderful dancer and has given a brilliant performance in my film Tell Me Oh Khuda, which will probably release this May,” says Hema.

Having recently done a classical dance show, Parampara, at Nehru Centre, with both her daughters, the actress now wishes to teach budding dancers.

“I’ve always wanted to open a dance academy, but the government’s not helping me acquire land. I’m still waiting for them to act rather than make false promises,” rues Hema.

The actress conceptualised a dance item on women’s empowerment for the show and feels every girl child can be an achiever in her own capabilities.

As a teacher to her daughters, Hema would rather avoid being preachy. “I never give them direct tips but casually bring up conversations about what I’d do when I was acting and they are smart enough to pick up my clues,” she smiles.

But Esha and Ahana prefer Hema the mother over Hema the teacher. “They are under my guidance when it comes to dance. I’m very strict as a teacher. But they are grown up girls so I correct their mistakes politely,” she laughs.

So will we see the mother and the daughters share screen space screen together like the Deol brothers and papa Dharmendra did in Yamla Pagla Deewana?

“You never know,” she signs off.
