I’ll bring an Oscar to Sandalwood: Ashok Kheny

He’s always chased dreams that are larger than life, be it the BMIC Road or buying the cricket team with Sandalwood actors. And now, Ashok Kheny now is all set to mark his debut in Sandalwood as a producer with a new film that’s readying itself for release, which is not a run-of-the-mill masala venture.

“I always wanted to make a really grand entry into Sandalwood. I needed a subject that was unusual, where people would sit up and take notice. I found one accordingly, a script inspired from a real-life story of a couple, with a child born with hearing and speech impairment,” says Kheny.

The casting for the film he has also been done accordingly, keeping in mind something different. “I’ve cast action king Arjun Sarja and the Tinku Jiya girl Madhuri Bhattacharrya as the couple. This is a different image for both of them. And neither has been around in Sandalwood for long, making this a comeback for both,” says Kheny.

This untitled film is 90% complete right now. “I didn’t want the regular song and dance routine in my entry into Sandalwood, which is why I have chosen this film. In fact, Arjun is also co-directing it. He is an extremely talented guy, who is as passionate about cinema as I am,” says Kheny, who plans on releasing the film around July 1.

“Sandalwood can make films that the world can take notice. I’ve been in the US and seen people taking to films that are really special. My debut Sandalwood production is one such, which is not the usual fare. I’m sure I’ll bring an Oscar to Sandalwood,” promises Kheny, who has three other films, which comprise Kannada and Hindi projects, in the pipeline.
