I won’t shed clothes to gain eyeballs: Genelia D'Souza

Actress Genelia D’Souza is probably one of the most viewed actors on television, thanks to her long list of commercials.

Though she may not have had a Bollywood release recently, the actress is one of the most sought after brand endorsers and she quite enjoys doing them. “I think brand endorsements happen in a very timely and planned manner and are an asset to every actor. Not only do they allow us another window of opportunity when it comes to visibility, but they also have a stronger connect with the masses. Brand endorsements help bring out our characteristics and personality traits in a more real way. In movies, we play different roles but in television commercials, we are totally ourselves,” she reveals.

The actress, who is known for her bubbly, effervescent persona and girl-next-door image, is quite happy with the tag and doesn’t plan to go in for an image make-over, especially at a time when every other actor is trying to be her sexiest best.

D’Souza points out, “People have appreciated me for a lot in roles that show me as a fun, feisty girl-next-door. But if the character is portrayed in a sensible manner and does not aim for vulgarity just for the sake of exposing, then yes I will play a bold, sexy character. I don’t believe in shedding clothes just to gain eyeballs.”

She now has her plate full with quite a few films in the pipeline including Force with actor John Abraham and It’s My Life with actor Harman Baweja. She is also really kicked about her film Urumi that will be showcased at the Hongkong Film Festival. D’Souza has earlier appeared in an ad with Abraham and admits that they share great chemistry on and off the sets. “It’s fun to be around John. He has a great sense of humour, so there’s no dull moment with him. I think our pairing is very fresh and there’s a nice, honest feel to it. We get along really well,” D’Souza signs off.
