I was in complete awe of papa while working with him: Esha Deol

It’s been three years since actress Esha Deol was last seen on the big screen, and now that the actor is ready to return she reveals that she didn’t mind the sabbatical at all.

Amidst rumours for the reasons of her self-imposed hiatus, she explains that what was really keeping her away were the kind of roles coming her way.

“I wasn’t too happy with either the kind of roles coming my way nor with the way my career was going back then. Besides, I’m not in a race that I can’t stop to take a break if I want to na?” she quips.

“Instead of diving into one role after another, I decided to take my time, assess my choices and come back once I was better prepared,” she adds.

Talking about what she felt went wrong with her career graph she says, “In many cases, my role on paper was completely different from how it shaped up on screen. Mid-way you do realise that it’s not going to work, but by then it’s too late to back out unless you want to be tagged as unprofessional or make your producers suffer losses. So despite of not agreeing to a lot of things, you try and keep your faith in the filmmakers and do your job. Often, marketing is not right, and it’s easy for people to see that too,” she says.

“I don’t want to play the blame game and I agree that I too as an actor may have flaws, but I’m working towards bettering myself with each take I give. I think that’s all that matters," she says.

The actress, who’s now returning with her mom’s production Tell Me O Khuda, says that the highlight of the film was getting to act alongside papa Dharmendra.

“I wish it had happened sooner, but then papa always says that there’s a time for everything. After working on this film, I agree with him because it is really all the more special for me,” says Deol.

“Papa’s an institution in himself, not only as an actor, but as a human being too. Over the years, I’ve seen him interact with his co-stars, fans and many others and almost everyone walks away with a smile after talking to him. I was in complete awe of papa as a co-star too!” she smiles.
