‘I want meatier roles,' says Tejaswini Kolhapure

From hoping to work with Sanjay Leela Bhansali to looking for a challenge, the cup runneth over for Tejaswini Kolhapuri.

‘I want meatier roles,' says Tejaswini Kolhapure

It’s a been almost a year-and-a-half that she’s been unable to indulge in her pet hobbies, with actor Tejawini Kolhapure caught up in three films to be released soon, but says the actor, “I’m having a blast now, what I love most — namely surfing the net and reading, mostly fiction. I stopped al that earlier as I like to do one thing at a time only”

In fact it is that philosophy that got folks on the set of Raavan, her mega film to think of her as stuck up. “Many people thought I was not too friendly on the sets, a snob even,” she laughs, “But really, I can’t do anything else while I’m ‘immersed’ in one role, it zaps me, you see.” And to break into the work mood of things was film actor Abhishek Bachchan, lead actor of the film. “After pack up, he’d fool around and have fun and Ash (referring to lead actor Aishwarya) and I go back a long way to our modelling days so it was nice to be with her.”

While that film she explains required spontaneous acting and no drama, her previous films have quite a different take. While Happi with Pankaj Kapoor and Nakul Vaid sees her playing an interior designer, in Mumbai Cutting she plays the role of Gayatari, a struggling character. “The film is about four people stuck in various situations of life, she’s a struggling actress from a small town who is desperately looking for work and will go to any lengths to make it her last chance.

At one time she stands up on the table and tells her director main aap ke liye kuch bhi kar sakti hoon. That’s how it is on life too. I haven’t experienced the casting couch, but I have heard it exists; it’s sad,” she says.

For someone who has had a theatre background, Tejaswini’s looking forward to working with an actor like Naseerudin Shah. “I want meatier roles. I’d like to also work with a director like Sanjay Leela Bhansali, he makes wonderful women-oriented films. I’ve heard he’s a tough task master and I feel that a good challenge is the fun part of work.”
