I'm the third world Johnny Depp: Cyrus Broacha

"People have grown so tired of my humour that I’m now reduced to playing a small role in a children’s serial. They don’t complain, you see,” jokes actor-VJ Cyrus Broacha, who’s currently shooting for the Disney show Jake And The Never Land Pirates. Cyrus, father of two children, maintains he’s happy that he’s got to be part of a show for kids.

“When I was young, in the 80s, there was hardly anything for me to watch. We just had two English shows, Chitrahaar and a few serials. Today, there’s enough and more options for the children when it comes to watching television,” says Cyrus.

The biggest fan he’s got is his daughter, we learn. “My younger daughter, who’s four, watches my show without fail and even describes what happened to me when I miss out on the show. Considering children are quite frank with their likes and dislikes, she’s liked the show so far,” says Cyrus, who quickly quips, “Though, she’s only four now, I’m sure she’ll be embarrassed to see that when she’s 14.”

Talking about the show itself, Cyrus says, “It is an animated show, where I’ve lent my voice to two of the characters in the show. I also play a small role. The best bit about the show is that towards the end, only two characters transform into real people. This adds that fantasy element to the show, which really works with the kids.”

Considering the fact that he plays a pirate, Cyrus jokes, “I am more like a third world Johnny Depp, if I were to compare myself with his character Captain Jack Sparrow.” Cyrus maintains that while films may not be on his current plan of action, he is open to doing more television shows, especially for kids.

“People forget that it’s the children who dictate what to watch on television. If there are shows that are packaged well for them, they will definitely run. I’d definitely say yes to doing more such shows for children,” says Cyrus.
