I’ll return to direction, says Upendra

Upendra is currently over the moon, for his return to direction after a decade has been lauded by audience and critics alike. “I have to admit I was very nervous. When people have expectations from you, it’s alright. But what I saw around me was over-expectations, which scared me. The positive response over the first weekend has put that to rest,” says he.

Upendra, in fact, believes that he gambled with his usual style of filmmaking, which was a risk that he took with his recent movie. “I was used to directing films which were high on dialogues and appealed to a section of audience 10 years ago.

"This film is a lot different. I don’t enter till after the first 10 minutes. The punch-filled dialogues are present, but aren’t too many. I didn’t know whether people would like it,” he says.

But, the good collections and reviews have made the actor-director a very relieved man. “I think that I’m not that bad a director. And I’m now confident that I still have it in me,” he adds.

Quiz Upendra if that means more films from him and he readily replies, “Of course, I’ll return to direct. I’m always the sort that will give people what they want. Currently,  they want me to direct more often. I’ll do that.”

Upendra, who does not  have any new film signed on yet, says, “I want to currently finish my commitment to the makers of Shrimathi, where we have to complete shooting a song. Following that, I’ll decide on how to take everything forward. This will mean both in terms of acting and direction.”
