I enjoy dark films: Ram Gopal Verma

He created movies in two extremes, one that people loved and adored and the other that everyone loved to hate. But love him or hate him, you can’t ignore Ram Gopal Verma.

A man of many seasons, he has influenced many of his successors and when he talks about the movies which have influenced him, you just have to listen.

“If I am supposed to talk about one particular movie which influenced me, it will be very difficult. At different points of time there have been many movies that left a lasting impression on me,” he says.

In terms of genres, his favourites are films that fall into the category of dark films. “I enjoy dark films and most of my films have this darker tone to the treatment.

The Godfather is one of my favourites and its impact is there in a lot of films I have done,” he says.

Another Hollywood classic The Sound of Music also features in his list of favourites. “I enjoyed some of the great Hollywood classics like the The Sound of Music and the horror film, The Exorcist.”

Among the Indian films, his favourite is Govind Nihalani’s cult classic Ardh Satya.
