I don’t do TV to stay in the public eye: Sonali Bendre

Actress Sonali Bendre hit hatrick by being a judge on the talent reality show for the third time. And the reason that has kept her going is the show’s clean format.

She is one of the first few actors who joined TV while she was at the peak of her career in films. She feels that TV is a fun medium which is not only big now but also helps audience to know you as a person rather than as an actor.

She says she does not do television because she doesn’t have films. “I have always been getting film offers but it’s my decision to stay away from them at least for now. And I don’t do TV to stay in the public eye but as I genuinely enjoy it. There may be many who do TV because they are waiting for some offers. I do it as I am comfortable doing it and it also gives me ample space to be with my son too,” says Sonali.

Sonali, however, can’t get herself to watch shows that have voyeuristic content. She says, “I have a young son at home and I can’t watch shows with adult content, when he is around. I feel we have a remote and can make best use of it rather than a committee editing the content. Many people can watch them comfortably as they may not have kids in the house, so why should they not enjoy the shows. I feel we are all mature and responsible enough to tackle small issues like these and hence do not need a censorship on TV.”

She also says that she loves to watch cartoon shows and English suspense and comedy shows.“I love to watch Disney cartoons, thanks to my son. I feel being a mother we need to keep a tab of what they are exposed to as it’s a vulnerable age. However, I also love the fact that being a working mom, I have the luxury to spend time with my son that many don’t,” she adds.

Ask her if she wishes to come out with a TV show of her own and she quickly adds,” I don’t think I am ready for something like this now. Besides my husband’s production house has creative and content people who are competent enough to do that. But if in future if I have an interesting concept that is playing on my mind.”
