I didn’t ditch anyone: Sonakshi Sinha

Reacting to allegations of unprofessionalism (cancelling her act for producer Ekta Kapoor’s awards at the nth hour), actress Sonakshi Sinha says she was taken ill just before the awards function and had to be rushed to a nearby hospital in the middle of the night.

She also maintains, through her representatives, that she had asked her staff to keep Kapoor’s production house informed about the developments.

“Following her performance for an awards function on February 6 that she did with fever and weakness, the doctor advised her complete rest for the next two days. She thought that she would be fine by then for the awards on February 11,” explains her spokesperson.

But, the fever persisted and on February 8 night, claims Sinha, her condition deteriorated so much that she had to be hospitalised. The actor claims that the same day her management informed the production house and “warned them that she might not be able to perform”.

She reveals that she was detected with malaria and was on antibiotics and heavy doses of injection. Finally, on February 10, the actor says that she had no option but to pull out of the show due to her condition.

“I was constantly speaking with the CEO Manuj Agarwal in the days preceding Sonakshi’s performance at the awards. He was made well aware that Sonakshi had fallen very ill. Manuj was hoping for the best and Sonakshi was keen to perform so we played it by ear. Eventually Manuj and I mutually decided to cancel the performance on doctor’s orders and the fact that Sonakshi had to leave for Chandigarh the following morning for a one-month outdoor schedule. Sonakshi is a thorough professional and not a single person has ever even mentioned otherwise,” says Bunty Sajdeh, her manager.
