I chose strictly on merit: Sushma Reddy

Former VJ and actor Sushma Reddy has finally turned film-maker and she doesn’t have any plans to cast either herself or her star sister Sameera Reddy in her debut venture.

“I have already announced my film. It’s called Dus Tola and it is based on the life a goldsmith. No, I haven’t cast either me or Sameera in it. I don’t think either of us fitted a role in the script. Since I am a producer now I will have to think in terms of what exactly the script demands. When something with Sameera comes up, I will surely let everyone know,” says Sushama candidly.

So, will she make a guest appearance in her debut film like some other film-makers do? “I don’t want to do that too otherwise people will say that I have launched a production house to launch myself and my family in it. It’s going to be a strictly professional organisation and actors who strictly fit the script requirements will be cast in my movies. I chose strictly on merit. In fact, I think that I am good at casting,” she says Sushama who credits her business partner Sanjay Bhattacharyya whole-heartedly for bringing her into the fold of a film-maker.

“I  wouldn’t have thought about it at all. It was Sanjay who sat down with me, set up back-to-back meetings and convinced me that the next best step for me is to venture into film production. I learnt all my ABCs of production from him,” says Sushma.

Sushma also informs that she is working on a joint production with a Hollywood producer to make a crossover film.  Is she tensed? “I am feeling like a pregnant mother now!” she exclaims, adding, “Sanjay is cool because he has already done eight movies. It’s the first step for me but I can assure you that it’s not going to be small leap.”
