I can’t be manipulated says Annu Kapoor

In his own words actor Annu Kapoor’s journey in the entertainment industry has been a long one — ‘full of struggles, but also immensely satisfying’. “As an artiste, one can never be fully satiated and there’s always a desire to do more, but I think there’s nothing more rewarding than the recognition one gets for one’s performance,” says the actor who recently bounced back into the limelight with his much-acclaimed performance in Vicky Donor.

“I really enjoyed doing the role, and guess that mazaa translated well on screen,” adds Annu. “Shoojit’s (director Shoojit Sircar) vision was so clear right from day one that we actors had clarity about our roles and steering it in the right direction was easy.

Also, working with Ayushmann (actor Ayushmann Khurrana) was a delight,” shares the actor.

Buzz is that post the film, the offers have shot up tremendously. But Annu is in no rush. “There’s a lot that my experiences have taught me in this industry. So, now I am not only choosy, but also careful. There was a time when I felt cheated, but today I am too strong to be manipulated,” reveals Annu as he recalls his experiences. Having dabbled in theatre, and also TV — he’s still best remembered for his Zee TV show Antakshari and for his role as Kabir — Annu admits that there have been times when he’s felt under-utilised, but every now and then there are films like Vicky Donor that make up for it. “It’s easier to become a star, than an actor here, because you can create stars, but not actors,” he points out.

Annu is however, quick to insist that he’s not bitter. “I have enjoyed doing some really strong author-backed roles and films like 7 Khoon Maaf and Vicky Donor are the ones, that will always be close to my heart,” adds the actor. “Good or bad, the journey’s been more ups than downs and with enough fond experiences to cherish,” says Annu, who apart from doing films, is currently also busy hosting a TV show.
