I am not interested in any publicity: Abhay Deol

The actor slams rumours about an alleged fallout with actor Emraan Hashmi, calls it a cheap publicity stunt.

I am not interested in any publicity: Abhay Deol

Actor Abhay Deol may be doing a lot more commercial films than he was before but he certainly has a long way to go, before he completely fits in. Ever since news broke out that he and his Shanghai co-star, actor Emraan Hashmi do not get along, Abhay has been busy clearing the air. He clearly does not believe in the adage ‘any publicity is good publicity’ and is extremely upset with this news doing the rounds. “I do not like it one bit. I didn’t know about all this but I think it is the PR (public relations) team that is trying to pit me against Emraan and create buzz. It’s a classic case of under confidence in your product that makes them resort to such publicity stunts. I don’t want to rake up any controversy and I am just not interested in all this. I know it works for a lot of people and films, but, I categorically told them to keep me out of such things. Frankly, I don’t need it,” he states.

While this news has been doing the rounds, Abhay hasn’t had a talk with Emraan about the same as yet and doesn’t plan to do so either. “As far as Emraan is concerned, he is a very smart guy. He is a great actor and a thorough professional. I haven’t really had the time to talk to him about this at all. And I don’t want to give it any more importance than it deserves. Things are okay between us,” he says putting an end to such gossip. Talking about Shanghai, he says he is now looking forward to the film’s release.

“The film has turned out really well and I am extremely excited about it. It is one of those films I will always be proud of. Plus, working with Dibakar (filmmaker Dibakar Banerjee) is always great fun. It was a team effort and it has paid off.”

Besides this film and his next with Prakash Jha, if there is any one genre, Abhay wants to experiment with, it’s dark comedies. “Not too many films in this genre are made in Bollywood but I am huge fan of dark comedies. People usually don’t get the dry sense of humour but Dibakar is very good at it. I hope he makes some films in that genre,” says Abhay on a hopeful note.
