I am keen for good work, but not desperate: Chitrangda Singh

The coming new year is promising to be a special one for actress Chitrangada Singh. The actress, who’ll soon be seen on the big screen after almost two years, will set the ball rolling for her coterie of films with Yeh Saali Zindagi in the coming year. Besides being her first release in the new year, what also makes the film that she describes as ‘an edgy love story that borders on being a thriller’ close to her heart is the fact that she is once again teaming up with her mentor, filmmaker Sudhir Mishra.

“But the equation is far different between us as an actor and director this time around,” she says about her Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi director. “The last time around, I was a complete novice. But I was better prepared this time, like I even understood camera angles and other nitty-gritties involved,” she explains.
Like her previous films, this one too sees her portray a strong character.

“Well, it’s not intentional,” she says, “But I do end up choosing roles that I can relate to. Probably that’s why I do films that suit the sensibilities of today’s woman.” However, she’s quick to point out that just because she chooses ‘sensible roles’ doesn’t mean that she is averse to mainstream cinema. “I’m doing Desi Boyz too, which is a hard-core entertainer and as mainstream as they come.”

So, is she equally comfortable playing the ‘sexy heroine’? “I don’t believe that you have to be seductive on screen to look sexy. So, why not? But at the same time, I want to clarify that though I’m keen for good work, I’m not desperate. So if it’s anything that would make me uncomfortable, I won’t think twice before saying a no either,” insists Chitrangada.
