I am competitive: Priyanka Chopra

The new year has just begun and actor Priyanka Chopra sure looks like she has a lot to look forward to. Vishal Bharadwaj’s Saat Khoon Maaf will be her first release this year followed by Don 2, Anurag Basu’s Silence and Krrish 2.

New year celebrations are incomplete without resolutions but Piggy Chops thinks otherwise. “I don’t make new year resolutions because I break them the very next day! I also believe that you don’t need ‘New Year’s’ to make resolutions.  As for new year’s eve. I was in Goa and had a great time!”

Looking back on the years gone by, it’s hard to believe that it’s been a good 5 years that Priyanka’s been around. “It still feels like I started only yesterday!  It’s been a roller-coaster ride.  I am lucky to be in the place that I am today.  Even though I came into this industry with no backing and no connections, I have crossed paths with so many wonderful people who have taken a chance on me...directors, producers, co-actors and the like.  I’d like to think this journey has not only helped me grow as an actor but also as a human being.  I started out uncertain about being in films but today I know this is what I was born to do.”

Priyanka, who is also just back from Berlin, cannot stop talking about her Don 2 experience. “ It was really great to be back on sets with Shah Rukh, Ritesh, Farhan, Boman Sir and the rest of the cast from Don and also new cast members like Lara Dutta and Kunal Kapoor.  We had fun every single day, where it was on-set or off it.  Apart from taking in the sights of Berlin, I also got a lot of training in video games... the boys played every night and I joined in the fun.”

After Andaaz her debut film, Priyanka will once again share screen space with Lara Dutta. Reportedly the duo shared cold vibes on the sets but Priyanka laughs it off. “It was great to work with Lara once again.  She was a part of my debut film and we’ve known each other since our Miss India days.  Reports of a fallout between us was just baseless reporting.  I have a great amount of respect for Lara and we got along just fine on the sets.”

While talking about rivalry and cat fights, we can’t help but ask her about the supposed rivalry with Kareena Kapoor. She retorts, “I am very competitive but mostly I compete with myself! I have known Kareena for a long time and there is no animosity.” She also disagrees with the fact that the industry does not have any long term friendships. “I have met many wonderful people in this industry and am lucky to call many of them my friends today.  I wouldn’t want to name anyone...they know who they are.”

Ask her about a certain Shahid Kapoor, and she retorts, “Baseless link-ups and rumours still upset me to some degree. Shahid is an amazing co-actor and a fantastic person. My personal equation with anyone is not a matter I would like to discuss,” she trails off.
