I am an incurable romantic: Shashi Tharoor

Politician Shashi Tharoor might not have changed his engagement date but sources say he is most likely to change the venue to avoid media glare. The politician, who was in Mumbai on Thursday for an event, had specifically instructed the event organisers not to allow any media-person to ask him questions about his personal life.

“Tharoor knew that the media would ask him questions about his marriage date or engagement. So, he had told the organisers beforehand that he would not face any questions from the media regarding his personal life,” says a source.

However, interestingly Shashi made an exception when After Hrs asked him whether he is still the romantic person that he used to be. “I am an incurable romantic,” he said.

“Romance is there in all of us. We are all normal human beings. We all fall in love and we all want to express it. I don’t know why I am being asked specifically about love. I am sure there are other emotions in this world that I can talk about,” he said when After Hrs pressed for more on the issue.

Shashi is reportedly getting engaged to entrepreneur Sunanda Pushkar at a  luxury resort on the outskirts of Bangalore on June 27 this year. However, the hotel has denied about such an event taking place.

The source adds, “Shashi and Sunanda might change the venue as the media is expected to be present there since the news has leaked out. A venue abroad was also being considered but that has been scrapped because most of the couple’s friends would not be able to make it. Sunanda wants to let the public know about the engagement while Shashi wants to keep it outside the media glare. The photographs, however, will be given out to the media in a manner that both are comfortable with. The date of the engagement has not changed because informal invites have already been sent out to a lot of people.”
