I am also a child: Amole Gupte

Director Amole Gupte loves to be in the company of kids. Of course, his past films like Stanley ka Dabba and Taare Zameen Pe only reiterate that fact. So, it wasn’t really a surprise when Amole decided to drop in at the DNA office along with his kid Partho.

Talking about his childhood, Amole says, “I had some 500 odd society friends I used to hang out with. My childhood was very different from Partho’s.” Amole points out that growing up in his days was totally different from what it is right now. “It was a different format. My games were different from his. I used to come home with a pocket full of marbles,” he adds, lamenting that the old, group games like marbles and gulli danda are not popular among the kids these days at all. “These were games that required at least a group of 20 to 25 kids at a time.”

Drifting to his film Stanley ka Dabba, Amole asserts that kids should never be put to the test. “I believe kids are not meant to be tested, that is why I did not conduct any auditions for this film. It was the same for TZP too,” he says.

When asked about his next film, Amole says that he hasn’t thought of it yet. It seems he’s still basking in the success of Stanley...!
