I am a child myself: Sonakshi Sinha on Children’s Day

Sonakshi strolls down memory lane to her childhood memories of the day

I am a child myself: Sonakshi Sinha on Children’s Day

Actress Sonakshi Sinha, who was on her way to Dubai, could not resist talking about one of her favourite topics — Children’s Day, celebrated today. Sonakshi admits that she’s sentimental about it. Here’s why...

What does Children’s Day mean for you? And what has been your most vivid memory as a kid?

Children’s Day celebration is a tribute to childhood, and it has always been special to me. The child in me celebrates it always. And this applies to all grownups as well, as we all have a child within us. Childhood is all about innocence. I remember the way we kids used to enjoy this day — there’d be lots of chocolates and gifts as if it was our birthday. Children are the most valuable resource and the best hope for the future. We cannot hide the fact that many children in India are not getting basic privileges like education. Children’s Day is to revise the right methods of raising children, as children will not remember you for the material things you provide them, but for the feeling that you cherished them.

When we talk about kids, who are your favourite kids?

To tell you the truth, I’m pretty much a kid myself. I think I get along better with kids than I do with people my own age! They are fun to be with and remind me every day what being a kid means. I love their innocence and at the same time, I feel responsible being around them. My favourite kids are my own nephews! Some of my friends have some pretty awesome kids as well!

What is the ideal way way to celebrate Children’s Day?
I was a pretty calm kid. I don’t believe I gave my parents any trouble growing up. I always did my homework on time, never had to be coaxed into studying and stuff like that. As I said earlier, celebrating Children’s Day is about giving children the right to enjoy and grow. It is about joy and freedom. As for the under privileged, it’s going to take a joint effort on the part of grownups and children alike to make sure no child goes hungry. It’s great to see various NGOs putting in so much time and effort to support the cause. Every step goes a long way!
