Husband Mahesh Bhupathi bails out Lara Dutta

Had tennis player Mahesh Bhupathi not stepped into the picture, actress Lara Dutta’s upcoming film might not have been made so soon. Lara, reportedly, admitted none of the big production houses were interested in producing it, not even after she signed for it.

“No one particularly knew about our production house Bheegi Basanti. After the cast was finalised, Shashant Shah (the director) waited for three months trying to get big banners to produce the film,” said Lara. That’s when husband, Mahesh pumped in his own money and convinced another big production house to produce the film.

“Probably one of the reasons most big production houses were not interested in the film was because they thought the film to be a bit small-scale. But, I really liked the script and so did Mahesh. Since he was already in talks with a production house for a project, they decided to collaborate with us. That’s how we ended up producing the film,” added Lara. Apparently both Mahesh and the partner company are happy  with the way the film has shaped up.

Mahesh is currently running two production houses — one with wife Lara, and the other, his own. Even though, Lara said that getting into production was a planned move, it is unlikely that Mahesh will merge his production company with the one he has opened with Lara. Even though the two are married, sources said that the couple will remain business partners and colleagues on the work front.
