Hr-Hr-Hrithik

It’s shocking to hear that one of the leading stars of Bollywood, Hrithik Roshan who used to stammer from the age of six, still practices speech therapy every day for an hour as he fears he might begin stammering again.

A little reluctant to talk about his speech problem, Hrithik opened up to Farah Khan on her chat show, Tere Mere Beach Mein, on Sunday when they shot for their last episode. Farah says, “This is the first time that Hrithik has ever spoken so elaborately about his problem. This time he agreed maybe because of the trust factor…because I’m a friend and he can trust me. I told him and everybody else who came on my show that if there is something that makes them uncomfortable, that they don’t want us to air, we will edit it.”

On the chat show, Hrithik revealed that he had a speech problem ever since he was six years old. When he was a teenager, he decided that he wanted to become an actor and decided to work on it. Hrithik says, “I would repeat the alphabets A-Z in all the different forms. I remember once, I had even practiced for 36 hours so, I could tell my cook what I wanted to eat.”

Hrithik continued, “I was getting the Best Debut Actor for my first movie in Dubai and I wanted to say, ‘I love you Dubai’ in my speech in the award function. But I couldn’t say ‘Dubai’. I wanted to practice saying ‘Dubai’ but for that I had to scream Dubai loudly. I couldn’t do that in my hotel room because my voice was being heard outside. I went to the bathroom and yelled ‘Dubai’ but even then, it could be heard by people outside. Thankfully, there was a big cupboard in the room. I locked myself up in the cupboard and practiced saying ‘Dubai.’ Finally, at the awards function, I was able to say that with a flow.”
