Gwyneth Paltrow: actress, singer, southern farmer?

Gwyneth Paltrow is evidently a country girl at heart.

The actress, who plays a troubled chanteuse in the new film Country Strong, said at the film's world premiere in Nashville on Monday that she fell in love with the region while shooting the film last year with singer Tim McGraw.

When asked about moving to the middle-Tennessee area, the Los Angeles native told reporters, "I would love it. My dream is to have land somewhere outside of Nashville and have a big organic farm outside of the city."

Her husband's opinion on the pastoral possibility was not known. Chris Martin, the frontman with British rock band Coldplay, was not present at Paltrow's big night. The couple, who will celebrate their seventh wedding anniversary next month, generally do not attend public events together.

Paltrow, instead, walked the red carpet ahead of McGraw and his wife Faith Hill. On the screen, Paltrow plays McGraw's wife. Her character is a major country singer who has had a nervous breakdown; his character is also her manager, and he struggles to launch her comeback.

Paltrow sings in the movie, and will perform the title track at the Country Music Association awards in Nashville next Wednesday. She admitted to battling some pre-show jitters.

"I actually feel better this week about singing the song on the awards show," Paltrow said. "I was really bad last week; I lost my appetite and I couldn't sleep. I feel prepared this week. If I can keep my nerves under control I can survive it."

Paltrow previously sang in the movie Duets, teaming with Huey Lewis on a cover of "Cruisin.''

She took both guitar and vocal lessons for her new role. Hill marveled that Paltrow "has so much respect for country music."

The filmmakers recruited plenty of other Nashville stars for the project. Singer/songwriters Jim Lauderdale and Lari White appear on screen, while artists on the soundtrack include Trace Adkins, Sara Evans and Ronnie Dunn. McGraw and Paltrow also contribute a duet track, "Me and Tennessee."

Following a similar rollout pattern as last year's country-themed Oscar winner Crazy Heart, Country Strong will open in limited release on December 22 through the mid-budget Screen Gems label before expanding early in the new year.
