Gurdeep and Arjun go rustic

In the film ‘Omkara’, Bipasha Basu looked sultry and sensuous in the mass appeal song ‘Beedi Jalai Le’ and Viveik Oberoi too played his part convincingly. The original is also remarkable for the way Bipasha and Viveik let their hair down. Can the same song be pulled off as convincingly by the innocent face and chocolate boy looks of Gurdeep Kohli and Arjun Punj?

Well, this very ‘Beedi...’ song is going to be the highlight in the first episode of ‘Nach Baliye 2’ (Star Plus). It took Gurdeep Kohli and Arjun Punj quite an effort to get in to the skin of the characters.

They were a tad anxious in getting the expressions right. “Our personalities do not identify with those in the song. We worked very hard at getting the expressions right. Getting the right amount of oomph was crucial for me and for Arjun, it had to be a full gusto performance,” says Gurdeep.

“We had to dress, speak, behave and act differently for this song. The costumes and make-up had to be in tune with the rustic characteristics of the song. Thankfully, our effort was appreciated by all on the sets and we got plenty of compliments from the judges,” says an excited and relieved Gurdeep.

“Arjun’s raunchiness in the song surprised me as I have never seen this side of him. This also helped me to get in to the skin of the character equally well,” shares Gurdeep.
‘I would not have been able to devote as much time to my dance rehearsals without the complete support and encouragement of Jai and Kinnari Mehta, the producers of ‘Sindoor Tere Naam Ka’ (Zee TV),” says Gurdeep. 

Sources on the sets say that Arjun’s raunchy performance in the ‘Beedi’ song, takes one’s breath away just by his acting and dancing prowess. Arjun, too, was happy that he had managed to pull off the song. “Our aim was to get everyone watching it to be transported to the heartland of India with our performance. Watch out for Gurdeep as she is as rustic-n-earthy as can be!  Her naughty moves in ‘Beedi..’ shall bring a whistle to the lips of all watching it,” quips Arjun.

How was the first day on the dance-based show? “This year, the competition is very tough and the judges are even stricter. All the couples have a lot of energy but the couples  I consider my closest competition would be Tanaaz Lall and Bhaktiyar Irani and Hussain and Tina,” signs off Gurdeep.
