Glocal call for Anil Kapoor

Actor Anil Kapoor who is juggling his time between his film, Shootout At Wadala and working on his upcoming TV debut 24, seems to have little else on mind these days besides work. But it’s not just balancing films, the actor has been managing his work in Bollywood and Hollywood with equal ease.

“The idea is not to treat them like two separate industries,” explains Anil. “I look at them as films, so the language, the industry doesn’t matter when I am on sets. The draw is to do something interesting and something out-of-the-box that would surprise your own self too as an actor,” he adds.

But ask Anil how doing an international film impacts offers here and the actor admits that the reactions differ. “The herd mentality is to pull you down, so no matter how much you achieve there will be detractors, but the idea is to ignore them and move on to more positive feedback,” smiles Anil. “But in any case the film offers definitely are affected. See, the filmmakers somewhat realise what the calibre of an actor is, so there are lesser chances of them even approaching you for work which is not worth it. It’s not to put anyone down, but the fact is that not just Hollywood films, but here too, I have tried to raise the bar with each film, if not for anyone else but for myself definitely,” he elaborates.
But is

there a preference for one industry over another? “No, the preference is only to do good work and nothing else. The films matter, the rest all is incidental. Take any actor, language or boundaries can never be a hurdle when it comes to wanting a good script,” says Anil. “So, all I am looking forward to is a challenging script or an absolute fun one.”

Meanwhile, the actor’s son Harshvardhan is all set to follow in dad and sister, actor Sonam Kapoor’s footsteps in Bollywood. When asked about it earlier, the actor had said that he will let his children chart their own course. “As parents they will always have our support, but the groundwork will have to be done by them. It’s important to earn things in life than just inherit it all. That’s what I have always believed in,” Anil had earlier said.
