Glass splinters in Megha’s throat!

The actor accidentally swallowed broken chips of her bangles while playing a hysterical widow in ‘Mamta’

A mourning scene on the sets of ‘Mamta’ (Zee) last week turned into a real calamity. The reel widow, played by new entrant Megha Gupta, accidentally swallowed pieces of her glass bangles that she was breaking to express her grief in the scene.

The 22-year-old Megha, who plays Satya Srivastav, has just entered the show as Akshay Shrivastav’s (Anand Suryavanshi) first wife. Her scenes begin with the knowledge that Akshay is no more. Unable to bear her sorrow, she had to wail and break her bangles on the wall.

“I wanted it be to  realistic,” says Megha. “Accidentally, I swallowed the bits. Not wanting to disrupt the shoot, I continued acting. But when a second piece entered my throat, it choked me and I started coughing badly.”

The semi-conscious Megha then started coughing blood. The unit immediately rushed her to a clinic where an X-ray revealed that her throat had been cut by the glass. The next day Megha reported back on the sets, fortified by pain killers and antibiotics.

Supervising producer Neeraj Sachdeva of ‘Mamta’ confirmed the incident saying, “She’s young and probably didn’t know how to deal with such a scene. She wanted the shot to look  realistic.”

The show, he reveals, suffered a loss of around Rs two lakh, as the day’s shooting had to be stalled. Around 60 junior artists, assembled for the ‘mourning’ scene, had to be hired again the next day.

Megha says, “Luckily, my mother arrived the same day from Muscat, so she’s taking care of me. It’s difficult to swallow food or even medicines. But the show must go on, I guess!”
