Get into his pants!
It’s the hottest trend this season in the West and no, you don’t necessarily have to have a boyfriend to latch on to it. But like it or not, ‘boyfriend jeans’ have become hot property what with the likes of Katie Holmes and Charlize Theron endorsing the trend by turning up in these loose fitting jeans with a rugged look.

Designer Rohit Bal thinks that a trend such as this one has limited scope. “Loose fitting jeans are not something the average Indian woman can pull off. But if you have long legs, then the denims would look great,” he says.

However, these ill-fitting denims do have a promising future if one takes the urban radical Indian youth into consideration. As designer Arjun Saluja points out, “It’s a very relaxed look and a great concept to sell to the youth, who are sure to lap it up. It’s also about freedom of expression — I mean, the term originated after Katie Holmes stepped out in what looked like Tom Cruise’s jeans as they were so ill-fitting. So it’s about standing out from the rest and doing your own thing.”

So perhaps it’s not surprising that the West has been inundated with brands offering their lines of ‘boyfriend jeans’. As model Harrison James adds, “It’s bound to get a following amongst those who are whimsical and have a carefree attitude.” Girlfriend Sucheta Sharma agrees. “Wearing loose jeans is not totally new but I think it’s very cool. And yeah, now I might even wear Harrison’s jeans to the next party I go to,” she laughs.

VJ Juhi may not have a boyfriend but she chimes in, “It’s not just about wearing your beau’s jeans; it’s about wearing something that may not be a great fit or very feminine looking but is really comfy.”

Designer Rocky S too says that the pre-requisite to wearing boyfriend jeans is to be able to not worry about the ‘right fit’. “If you are a finicky person, then this trend is not for you,” he notes.
