Forget husband I’m a dad already, says John Abraham

With three back-to back hits at the BO as an actor and now one more as a producer, John Abraham admits that he’s on a professional high. Add to this, reports of his marriage with banker girlfriend Priya Runchal being due sometime in August, and the year looks to be quite an action-packed one for the actor. But John insists that the only action he is busy with for now is the one meant for the big screen. “I’m just too busy with all the onscreen action for now,” says the actor, who despite confirming that marriage is on his mind, refuses to divulge more. “Forget me being a husband, I’m already happy being a dad,” laughs John, as he talks about his ‘baby’ Vicky Donor. Elated with the response his maiden production’s garnering, the actor-producer who’s apparently shooting for Race 2 in Turkey, says, “I feel like a proud papa.”

The film’s success combined with his entering the 100-crore league with Housefull 2, calls for celebration, but the actor’s already plunged into his upcoming projects. “Who says I’m not celebrating? Working for me is celebrating. I’m no party animal and this is what I enjoy doing the most,” he quips. Post the success as a producer, the actor admits that his plans of turning director may work out sooner than expected. “I am ready to direct,” he says. But for now, the actor is neck-deep into work as a producer and actor. Post the schedule for Race 2, John will begin the promotional rounds for I, Me Aur Main, then Shootout At Wadala again, followed by Dostana sequel, Jaffna, Kala Ghoda and his production Hamara Bajaj. “More than the quantity, I’m excited about the variety,” he says.

Though the actor has found a comfort zone in both action and comedy, John insists that as an actor he’s keen to raise the bar with each film and is as much game for experimenting as he was, when he first came in the industry nine years back. As for his role as a producer, John says it’s no different. Keen to balance the commercial with offbeat cinema, John says that with his first production he’s managed to find the middle path and now hopes to work along those lines. “It was a trailer of the kind of films I want to make as a producer. The films that will follow will push the envelope further,” he insists.
