FIR filed against Prem Chopra

A police station in Rajasthan has booked the veteran actor for an alleged fraud on a complaint made by an aspiring actor.

FIR filed against Prem Chopra

Following a criminal complaint at the Subhash Chowk Police station in Rajasthan, the police have lodged an FIR against veteran actor Prem Chopra. Sources say that Chopra has already been issued summons from the police station. Charges against him include that of fraud.

“There is an FIR against five persons and the name Prem Chopra features amongst them. I must say that just an FIR has been lodged based on a complaint and this doesn’t imply in any way that he is guilty. My colleagues in Rajasthan police have told me unofficially that they have started their investigation,” says an officer from Mumbai police.

According to the police, there is some prima facie evidence against Chopra and the others against whom the FIR has been lodged.

“So far as I know, he will be interrogated on floating a film production company which was holding auditions for their forthcoming film. A person called Wasim Khan was auditioned for a side character and later selected. After the selection, he was asked to pay Rs 3.5 lakhs as an initial payment, because he was getting a Bolywood break. He was also apparently told that he will get the money back if the film does well. Now, after he paid the money (in February, 2011) he hasn’t heard from any of them for five months. He then went to the local court with his complaint and the court issued a directive to the police station to file an FIR.

Accordingly, the FIR was filed based on the court complaint and according to its directive,” adds the source.

However, his fans still believe that Chopra might not be guilty and his name is unnecessarily being dragged into the controversy.

“Some believe that his name was only used to collect money and he was not the one who has actually got any share of it, even if it had been paid. But unfortunately, the FIR document has his name,” the source adds.
