The legendary musician is excited about strumming his ‘infinite guitar’ in an Indian movie for the first time; says AR Rahman inspired him to do it.

‘Enticing’ Bollywood lures Michael Brook

Music composer, producer and guitarist Michael Brook — who invented the famous infinite guitar — will be playing it himself for his first Indian film.

“I love the sounds of Indian films. I have built a collection of Bollywood songs from the 70s. I call it the Bombay Collection and there are quite a few songs that I dote on from the collection,” says Michael in an exclusive interview to DNA over the phone from Los Angeles.

Michael’s infinite guitar will be used as the score for Dev Benegal’s forthcoming film Road, Movie. He says, “The prospect of featuring in an Indian film was very enticing, especially after I met AR Rahman. I was also in Rahman’s studio in Chennai and after speaking to him, the lure of Bollywood became even more important for me. When Dev came forward with this proposal, I knew it was a good opportunity. It was an interesting experience to compose music for the movie. Though I have used my instrument (the infinite guitar), I have created a soundtrack that sounds Indian.”

Post his first Indian movie experience Michael says he will take on other assignments in Bollywood only if the script ‘turns him on’.

“Working in Bollywood again will be an exciting opportunity because everybody around the world is listening to Indian sounds these days. You know what? I have not heard the latest Bollywood hits, but I am looking forward to adding them to my collection,” he ends.
