East meets West in celebville

Jetsetter Queenie Singh pens some celeb-studded moments from the New York Fashion Week.

East meets West in celebville

You have not seen fashion unless you have seen it the way New York celebrates it. All stores are brightly lit with loud music and parties being hosted by the designer of the store. The fashion shows are held now at the Lincoln centre and no more at the Bryant park location. Although the latter had great energy, the news was that it was causing disturbance in the business area during fashion week.

I did wonder what Valentino was doing at the Diane Von Furstenberg show. Good friends I assumed. Besides him there was no other celebrity. I guessed owing to the 10th year anniversary of 9/11 they chose to stay away from the shutterbugs. I heard Tommy Hilfiger too had cancelled his party that night.
At the Armani party, the who’s who of the fashion fraternity were present. I missed Lindsay Lohan there, but met her at a private party later, at the Electric room at The Dream Hotel, looking stunning with her blonde tresses cascading over her shoulders. I loved her shoes by David Z. She obliged me by taking them off so that I could have a closer look and admire them.

Donna Karan opened the show with the serenity of white followed with block prints reminiscent of the 70’s. Herve Leger opened with dazzling gold and silver bandage dresses. Little shrugs and racy bolero jackets were an addition to his collection this time. A number of celebrities sat on his front row. Among them Vanessa from Gossip Girls looked striking in a blue Herve Leger.

After attending one of the most coveted fashion parties at 1 Oak , the same night I met the handsome Gerard Butler at ‘Derby’. He was in New York for the premier of Machine Gun Preacher which was showcased at the Museum Of Modern Art. The ‘Derby’ is presently a place for ‘right’ people to hang out in if you can get past the doorman!
