Digamber Kamat skips queries on not inviting Amitabh Bachchan for IFFI

Goa chief minister Digamber Kamat today skipped queries as to why Amitabh Bachchan was not invited for the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) stating that it was for the directorate of film festivals to decide on it.

"It is not for me. It is upto the directorate of film festivals (that comes under the information and broadcasting ministry to call Bachchan as the guest)," Kamat said responding to a question.

Bachchan was reportedly not invited for the film festival this time as also on earlier occasions due to his political affiliations.

Addressing a press conference, Kamat also said that railway minister Mamata Banerje would attend the inaugural function as information and broadcasting minister Ambika Soni was indisposed.

Indian film legend Yash Chopra will inaugurate the festival at a ceremony scheduled at Kala Academy.

Kamat said that Margao town located 35km from Panaji will screen films at state government owned auditorium, Ravindra Bhavan.

"A total of 27 films will be screened here. People can get tickets on the spot and delegates also can see the movies here," the chief minister said.

He stated that holding IFFI in the state is paying rich dividends and state has started producing movies of its own.

The 10-day festival will start on November 22.
