Dia Mirza gets fined by Mumbai Customs

Customs officials at the Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International interrogated actor Dia Mirza for about two hours for carrying undeclared goods through the green channel. Sources at Mumbai Customs also confirmed that she was fined for carrying undeclared goods.

The green channel at the airport is meant for passengers who have no goods to declare to the customs. Sources say a customs officer stopped Dia the moment she took the green channel. Dia was returning from Bangkok by Thai Airways, which is known to be a shopping destination among celebrities in Mumbai.

“We have been instructed to check any celebrity taking the green channel. If we recognise her face, we will surely go and interrogate. We stopped her and asked her if we can check her bags. She gracefully agreed,” says a source from the Customs department.

The officers then found out that she was carrying cosmetics and bags worth about two lakhs, which she had not declared to the customs. According to sources, she paid a fine duty on two lakh worth of undeclared goods.

“We questioned her and she said that it was all that she had. Actually she was one of the few celebrities who didn’t create a fuss when she was caught,” the source ends.

Previously actors Minnisha Lamba, Bipasha Basu and socialite Sheetal Mafatlal have all been apprehended and caught at the same green channel for attempting to pass through it without declaring their goods. Dia Mirza is the first celebrity to get caught get this year.
