Dance is where Isha Sharvani's heart lies

They say she dances like a dream and one look at her performances is sure to prove that. Having begun dancing from the age of seven, Isha has toured as many as 22 countries over the last few years for her performances. Known for her stylistic choreography and dance moves, she is also known for her performances in films like Luck By Chance, Kisna among others.

The dancer, who will be in the city for a performance as a part of the ongoing Bengaluru Ganesh Utsav on September 7, is excited about performing her latest piece — Shiva Shakti. “Though we have performed it in other countries, the performance in Bangalore will mark its premiere in India. Titled Shiva Shakti, it’s based on the ancient Indian philosophy of tantra.  I am hoping the audience likes it,” says Isha.

Though she is trained well in different dance forms like kathak, kalaripayattu, chhau... she says that dance has no end. “I am a workaholic in the positive sense and obsessed with dance. After completing work on one piece, my hips are already thinking about the next one,” she gushes, adding, “I don’t like to repeat myself and therefore, involve a lot of research and development work for my next dance piece. However, dance has no end and I would love to learn more dance forms!”

Dance apart, she was last seen opposite Hrithik Roshan in Luck By Chance. Probing her about her film career, she says, “I love cinema and it’s one of the greatest mediums. However, it’s not easy to shuffle between dance and films. It is indeed a tough decision to reduce the number of films, but you need to sacrifice something. Dance is still considered as an unusual career path in India and it is difficult to break through,” she signs off.
