'Charulata' poster bares resemblence to Vidya Balan photoshoot

There have been inspirations and there have been blatant copies. Actress Vidya Balan is apparently amused after she found out that Bengali director Agnidev Chatterjee chose to blatantly copy one of her earlier photo-shoots for promotional shoots of a remake of a Satyajit Ray classic Charulata.

“One look at the picture and you know that only the costume is different. The whole photo-shoot has been blatantly copied. Vidya is amused that how her photo-shoot can be exactly replicated and nobody had the courtesy to tell her what was happening,” says a source close to the actress.

Vidya apparently doesn’t want to take this up because she has immense regards for Oscar-winner Satyajit Ray and she has seen his classics several times over. “She has immense regard for Ray classics and would’ve loved to play a Charulata in Hindi and she is waiting for a role like that,” the source adds, saying that everybody initially thought that it is photo-shopped version that is doing the rounds of the internet.

When DNA got in touch with actor Rituparna Sengupta, she admitted that she had done the photo-shoot,  but she said that she is unaware of  Vidya’s shoot.

“I am not aware of any shoot that Vidya has done like that. I just went with what my director asked me to do. I didn’t know that it is exactly like what she had done earlier. In any case, I think that we both look drastically different because of the costumes,” says Rituparna.

Now, only if the photographs did look drastically different.
