Break 'ke baad' for Gautami Kapoor

Gautami Kapoor is in a huge dilemma. She is ready to work but the work coming her way has just not been exciting enough.

“I have been offered more than five shows but there was nothing I could relate to. I don’t have any problem working with any rural or urban set-up but the content has to be exciting enough. I have sat through the narration but at the end of it, I was very convinced with the fact that I don’t want to do such a show,” she says.

Since the time her role as Tulsi in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi has ended, Gautami took a small break. And then she went on to extend her family. After daughter Sia, Gautami became the mother of a baby boy who was fondly named Aks. However, the break has been quite long and she is longing to get back to work.

“Ram is busy with his work and my kids have also grown up. Now I don’t want to sit at home and become a housewife. And I have been working from a very early age, so it’s quite difficult for me to just sit at home.” And that’s one of the reasons why she almost picked up a show recently. “I was so itching to work that I took up a show which Ram completely disagreed with. And then I realised that this was not something I wanted to do. And I was happy thinking I didn’t do something I didn’t want to do,” she adds.

Gautami thinks it has a lot to do with the role of Tulsi in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. “My role as Tulsi was very fulfilling creatively and it was such a big show. I was so happy with the show that it has become a benchmark of my work. Now it has become difficult to find another show which can match up to that,” she says.

Has Ekta Kapoor offered her any new show? “No…not yet. But I am sure if she has something apt for me, she will call me. She knows my body of work and she knows me personally very well too. She is very clear about her casting.”

Is she looking at any specific kind of role? “I am just open to good work. Right now, I am playing the waiting game.”
