Books, baby albums and bal gopals galore at Bachchan household

Ever since superstar Amitabh Bachchan broke the news of his bahu, actress Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan and beta, actor Abhishek Bachchan expecting their first child, the Bachchan household has been inundated with congratulatory messages, calls, flowers, and gifts from friends, family and their fans from all over.

The Bachchans are obviously overwhelmed with the affection that’s been pouring in from all quarters and are busy sending out personalised thank you notes accompanied with boxes of mithai and apparently the Maa of the house, Jaya has taken it on herself to ensure that.

Just like it was, when the couple had got married in April, four years back. The newly-weds were apparently flooded with gifts ranging from silverware to expensive sarees and from exclusive luxury products to elaborate bouquets. This time around too, the Bachchans are flooded with gifts piling up at their doorstep.

And sources reveal that while the soon-to-be parents Abhishek and Aishwarya know that it’s their fans’ way of showing their love, they both do get a little overwhelmed with the kind of personal gifts that are pouring in.

“Their mail has increased manifold since the happy announcement and there are fans who are already sending them books on pregnancy, baby albums, hand-stitched baby clothes and idols of Lord Ganesh. But the one gift that they’ve been getting in abundance is a range of silver idols of the Bal Gopal (idol of Lord Krishna holding a ladoo), that are considered a shagun.

“Though they think it’s really sweet of their fans, they do not know how to thank them all for their wishes,” said an insider.

When asked about it, Abhishek admits that it’s very touching to see their fans celebrate this happiness with them just like family members. “They (fans) prayed when my dad was ill, they’ve always been there for us in our tough times and it’s only fair that they be part of the happiness too. Both Aishwarya and I are deeply touched with the kind of affection and blessings we’ve been getting and we’re thankful to all,” said Bachchan Jr. We point out that he’ll not be the only ‘junior’ anymore and he laughs.

“It’s the proudest moment for any dad to welcome their junior, so I’m celebrating.” As for Aishwarya, Abhishek adds that she’s on the top of the world too. “We’re feeling so blessed and happy, and it’s nice to see so many around being happy for us too, it’s touching,” he says.
