Bipasha Basu — A player of a different league

She sure is proud of her achievements and has no qualms in talking about them. But she does it without being supercilious.

“I think a good actor is judged by the different kinds of roles he or she plays and there are not too many people like that today,” says Bipasha, referring to the wide gamut of characters she’s played on screen. All set to begin promotions for her next film, Players, the actor is quite excited that the film is releasing a day before her birthday!

“I am going to bully everyone to have a big party on all the days that we do the film’s promotion,” says the actor, with a laugh.

The film, which is the official adaptation of the Hollywood blockbuster The Italian Job, is going to see Bipasha in an almost fantastical role. “Players is only an adaptation of the film; a few alterations have definitely been made to make it commercially viable in India. I play the role of a girl called Riya who is one automobile queen. She knows everything there is to know about cars and if a situation requires it, she can even be the man,” adds the actress.

Incidentally, in reality, Bipasha and cars don’t have that kind of an understanding. “I don’t know much about cars but I did exactly what I was asked to do and I think I have been quite convincing,” says the actor, whose role as Riya is sort of a mix between Charlize Theron in The Italian Job and Angelina Jolie in Gone In 60 Seconds.

As far as the film is concerned, Bipasha is rather excited about the film’s impact. “It’s going to be amazing, this much I can promise. It has all the elements of a successful film and is going to be as larger than life as one can imagine,” says the actress.

What has been the hardest for her — roles that require her to use emotions as her selling point or films that focus more on action? “I think both are equally difficult. For instance in Rituparno’s Shob Choritro Kalponik, my role was intense and serious and in Players, I will do some serious action. I guess I am one of those actors who can be emotional as well as kick ass in a bikini,” says Bipasha.
