Being called a sex siren is not on my agenda, says Anushka Sharma

Actress Anushka Sharma’s been one maha-busy girl since the success of her last outing in Band Baaja Baraat.

And the young star, who’s obviously elated about beginning the year on a high note is now gearing up for her next release opposite actor Akshay Kumar. Never mind that she’s playing a Punjabi kudi in it yet again, Anushka’s unperturbed about being typecast.

“So what if I’ve played a Punjabi girl in three of my four films?” she quips. “Each character has been very different and unique and I don’t mind playing any role as long as they are relatable,” adds the actor whose choice of roles has incidentally also earned her the girl-next-door tag.

But Sharma reveals that she’s in no hurry to try and break that image either. And this at a time when most actresses are going the extra mile to assert their sexy images.

“I don’t see the big deal in being called sexy, really. Besides, tags like these are almost meaningless now. Today, it’s equally acceptable for the girl-next-door to be sexy as well,” she says.

And though Sharma admits that “being called a sex siren is not on my agenda”, she is quick to add that if a role requires her to look sexy, “I will give that my best shot too.”

But right now, the actor’s most excited about starring opposite one of her favourite actors, Akshay Kumar. “He is very spontaneous and the way he switches from comedy to drama and vice-versa is amazing. He’s also been very encouraging. I think, coming from a non-filmi background like me, he understands the pressures,” she says before signing off.
