Bappi Lahiri bats for world peace

If one was wondering where Bappi Lahiri has wandered off for all these months, then here’s the lowdown. The singer says that he has been camping in Los Angeles for a month now to work out his next international album.

“I am working on my next international album and I wanted to bring something very substantial and not a flimsy pop album. I was looking out for a well-known international artiste. I am glad I could collaborate with more than one,” says Bappi over over phone from LA.

Bappi says that he has teamed up with legendary American saxophonist Gerald Albright for an album on world peace. But when did this world peace bug hit Bappi who till recently was an out-and-out Bollywood composer?

“I have been doing some international work for a long time now and since my album with the Jackson Five was taking time, I thought that I should do something worthwhile in the mean time. So while staying in LA, I got in touch with Gerald and asked him if he can team up with me for an album. He took his time and then said yes.”

Albright was one of the ten featured saxophonists who performed at Bill Clinton’s inauguration.

The musician regularly features at the US Presidential Summit, as well as a staple performer on several private functions hosted for and by the US President.

Bappi also says that he has teamed up with Julia Waters and Maxine Waters who are known as the famous Water Sisters in the same album.

Apart from composing music and playing tabla, Bappi has also sung on the album along with the Water Sisters and US-based pop singer Terri Young.
