Band Parvaaz pioneers of soulful Sufi-Rock bands in Bangalore

Parvaaz, meaning ‘flight’ in Urdu, is the brain child of two very young and passionate musicians from Kashmir. With some powerful lyrics, the band is one of the pioneers of the rare yet soulful Sufi-Rock bands in Bangalore…

In the category of promising bands in the year to come, RJ Anjaan went with Parvaaz as one of his choices. The band comprises Khalid Ahamed on lead vocals, Kashif Iqbal on the lead guitar and vocals, Adarsh Deokota on the rhythm guitar, Neil Simon on the bass and Sachin Banandur on the drums

Being the lead vocalist of the band, Khalid really is one of the best front-men in the music scene in India. His hypnotising voice, wide vocal range and tremendous tone control help the songs to be as successful as they are.

Kashif derives inspiration from classic rock and blues, making him a very sound-and-feel guitarist. With an amazing tone and unstoppable skill, Kashif’s guitar adds the wind to the band’s flight.

Originally from Sikkim, Adarsh has had a musical background all his life. With a mix of acoustic and electric guitar, he is the backbone for the band.

Again finding a lot of inspiration from blues and funk, Neil has a very free flowing blend of both the genres, creating a very fresh run of bass-lines that gives the band its very catchy groove.

And finally, Sachin - he comes from a family of folk musicians and is a naturally free flowing percussionist. Not only the drums, Sachin’s also very innovative with different percussion instruments.

What started of as a bunch of kids from college playing music, the band has, in very less time grown to great proportions. They have been playing live throughout Bangalore and various cities like Delhi and Shillong.

The band won five college festivals back-to- back during March and April 2010. They’ve also performed in some of the most popular watering holes in Bangalore and have received immense response from different kinds of audiences the city offers.
