As edgy as electro music gets!

This band, contrary to the name of their first album Exit Plan, has made a grand entry into the electronic music scene in the last year. With their unique style and song-based electro music, Teddy Boy Kill (TBK) is wooing the crowds as much with their gigs as their music which is making it big online.

In fact, TBK reached the downloadable limit on soundcloud.com. It is obvious that people are curious and want to get more and more of this band.

Former vocalist for
Envision Ashhar Farooqui who handles the vocals and guitar, and music producer Samrat Bharadwaj who plays the synths and beats make for a formidable team trying to reinvent sounds and styles and take Indian electronic sound to the next level.

Their soundscapes go from groovy to edgy to trancy with tracks like Tonic, Travelling— a track about escaping the hustle and bustle of the city and Face of the Future.

“You can get totally lost when playing electronic music. And one electro band could easily end up sounding like the other. So yes, we have made a conscious effort to have our own personal style and sound,” says Ashar.

TBK is all for over the edge stuff. Recently they did Drugs, Idiots and Teddy — a tribute to Guy Richie and then they have also used a sample in their track Subterra Blues (from Radiohead’sSubterranean Homesick Alien). “We  always give credit,” says Ashar.

Ashar believes that the live gig scene has opened up drastically for EDM and that the number of gigs every good band is playing has gone up many folds. And TBK has been doing loads of fun in their live performances.

“We always leave space for improvisation in our tracks and our live performances are way longer than the recorded track. In Mumbai and Delhi, people know our tracks and we get requests, which is a good sign. But we are still trying to make inroads in other cities,” says a modest Ashar. The best thing for them is that they don’t have to worry about logistics when travelling.

“Major problem that bands have is the logistics. Taking along all the equipment and the many band members could be cumbersome. For us that’s obviously not a hitch,” he says.

The band is already creating new tracks all the time and a new album is always on the anvil. “It will happen eventually. Right now we are on a high performing live,” says Ashar.
