AR Rahman not a favourite at the Oscars?

Buzz is that not many critics are placing their bets on the musician to bag an Oscar this year.

AR Rahman not a favourite at the Oscars?

Musician AR Rahman ended up on the losing side as he or film-maker Danny Boyle didn’t win any award at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) awards on Monday.

Rahman was nominated in the Original Music Category along with Alexandre Desplat, who ultimately bagged the trophy for his music score in The King’s Speech. It may be recalled that the last time when Rahman won the double Oscars for Slumdog Milllionaire, Desplat had also won the BAFTA.

Rahman was also nominated at this year’s Golden Globe awards for his music in the same film, but lost out to The Social Network. A section of the international critics are no longer holding Rahman as the favourite in the Oscar race but pinning their hopes on Social Network which seems to have emerged as a favourite. At the Oscars, Rahman has been nominated in two categories — original score for 127 Hours and original song If I rise.

Film-maker Christopher Nolan’s Inception and David Fincher’s The Social Network won three awards each at BAFTA.
