Any attention is good attention: Aditya Singh Rajput

Aditya is a face everyone recognises and a name that few know — we catch up with the upcoming actor as we chat about his latest projects and his brand new film Choron Ki Baraat.

Any attention is good attention: Aditya Singh Rajput

"Yes, I do get more male attention than female, but I’m not complaining — any attention is always good attention,” says young and upcoming star Aditya Singh Rajput and laughs heartily and we’re already in love with him.

You’ve seen him in Maine Gandhi Ko Nahin Maara and U, Me Aur Hum and a gazillion other ads, and he’s vouched to be India’s most googled commercial model — with an infectious smile like his, we’re not left wondering why.

“I’ve always wanted to be an actor and have a passion for serious roles, but at the same time, I am a rom-com aficionado and that’s one of the biggest reasons for me to choose a comedy film as my next,” says Aditya, about his next flick Choron Ki Baraat.

Sharing a name with a high-energy thriller from the 1980’s — this Choron Ki Baraat also stars Om Puri, Arya Babbar, Rajpal Yadav, Sayali Bhagat and debutante Maanasi.

“We’ve finished shooting the film and the dubbing’s expected to start soon, but the excitement has already started building up,” he says. Directed by Mandeep Singh, also a debutante director, this comedy is expected to hit screens in four months or so.

“It was amazing shooting with Om Puri, Arya Babbar and Rajpal Yadav, as we travelled between Hyderabad, Mumbai and Panchgani, and I never thought comedy would turn out to be such a forte for me. Commercial cinema is a different ball game altogether, but I am still, deep down, a parallel cinema lover and hope to continue working with projects and directors in that genre,” he enthuses.

Third film in a row, we ask Aditya if he plans to continue modelling for advertisements and, “of course,” pat comes his reply. He is after all one of the most in-demand models in the ad world — with a huge fan base even in the south.

“I love the south for how warm people are. I have shot in Bangalore and Chennai quite a few times and the energy and professionalism always leaves me begging for more. Also Bangalore is so beautiful, you guys are so damn lucky,” he tells us.

That brings us quite predictably to our next question — south films?

“Why not? As long as the scripts are strong and they allow me to dub, I’d have no issues whatsoever. So much so, I’d be looking forward to a project like that,” says Aditya.

We end the interview asking him about the projects he’s already landed. “I have two very important projects — one commercial and the other art-house — I can’t say much about either, but can definitely assure you that the art-house flick sees me in a more grown-up avatar — I’m really looking forward to that one,” he concludes.
