Anil Kapoor not shy of taking cop roles

The actor who will be seen playing a cop in three of his forthcoming releases says that he won’t shy away from taking on more police acts.

Anil Kapoor not shy of taking cop roles

It’s not the first time that actor Anil Kapoor will be seen playing a cop on the big screen, in his forthcoming films, Roger Donaldson’s Cities, as well as in Tezz and Sanjay Gupta’s Shootout At Wadala. But like the actor is quick to point out, all the roles couldn’t be more different. “I don’t think they can be compared. All are far too apart in terms of the story, character and the backdrop,” says the actor. But ask him if he enjoys getting into a cop’s shoes and Anil agrees.

“I think any role that I take up is only if it interests me enough, so for me, getting into the shoes of any character I play is something I look forward to, be it the role of a gangster or a cop,” adds Anil.

And though the actor is impeccable when it comes to his performances, the effort he puts in is something he doesn’t talk much about. “I don’t study acting as such, I study characters and try my best to get into their minds. So, my preparations are more to do with understanding the character than rehearsing my lines alone,” reveals Anil.

Having recently attended the BAFTA awards in London, Anil admits that the buzz Bollywood’s been creating at such international events has grown manifold. “Post Slumdog… (Oscar winning film Slumdog Millionaire) there’s been a higher curiosity to know about Bollywood and all things Indian. And over the years, the curioisty has only heightened. And now more than just the industry names of some key players are being discussed as well,” says Anil.

The actor himself says that he is more than happy to continue his association with both, the Indian film industry as well as the film industries in the West and adds that there need not be a compulsion to choose between the two. “I don’t look at switching over at all. There’s an interesting exchange of talent happening, I feel, which is not equivalent to giving up one industry for another. I am an actor, be it here or there, so how does the industry matter? What matters is the film,” he quips.
