Angel eyes is back

DNA finds out what took singer Raghav four years to come back — this time with three Hindi tracks.

Angel eyes is back

Raghav, who rocked Mumbai last night at Hard Rock Café has waited four long years to come out with his second album Identity. Reason: he wanted to give the Indian subcontinent his best.

“Lots of people just come out with a commercial record after the success of their earlier album. But I wanted to give something awesome to the Indian subcontinent who have been loyal fans,” he says.

So My Kinda Girl, Raghav’s new single marks the return of the 27-year-old, who sold an imposing 1.3 million copies of his 2004 debut album Storyteller around the globe. This time he’s got three Hindi songs — My Kinda Girl (a ballad), Humrahee (a soulful number) and Jadugar (old school house) though the album is more of an eclectic mix of various sounds.

The singer who is touring the country with VH1’s Global Music Express, will also be visiting Bangalore, Delhi and Hyderabad. “This is the first time I’m performing new songs in India — songs that the audience has never heard before.”

Though Raghav is keen on Bollywood he is very clear that it should be on his own terms. He was offered to do a song for Love Aaj Kal but he wanted it to be a “Raghav” song. “I stand really firm that I want to write my own songs. Bollywood is about solo artistes — playback singers. Someone like AR Rahman has now been recognised as an artiste. That’s how it should be.”
