Akshay Kumar rescues 'Action Replayy'

Decks have been cleared for the release of the retro film Action Replayy on Friday, after the Bombay high court was informed that lead star Akshay Kumar has intervened to settle the dispute between producer Vipul Shah and entertainment company Eros Worldwide
FZ-LLC.

Vacation judge justice JH Bhatia was told by Eros’ counsel Ravi Kadam that the actor has requested that the release of the film should not be stalled.

“He has requested not to press our application. He will intervene and bring about a settlement,” said Kadam.

The judge recorded the actor’s statement and adjourned the matter till after the Diwali vacations.

Eros’ petition stated that two letters were issued by Shah dated October 24, 2009 and October 26, 2009 in Eros’ favour, and in which he undertook to pay a principal sum of Rs6.37 crore. The amount was due in March 2010.

Eros moved HC on October 2, 2010 against Shah, seeking he must first pay them Rs6.56 crore, and urged the court to stay the film until then.

In their petition, Eros also mentioned that Shah is in a “financially embarrassed state,” and under pressure from his creditors. Eros said Shah is facing a financial crunch because his last film London Dreams flopped badly.

London Dreams was co-produced by Head Start India, which was a group company of Eros International Pvt Ltd.
