Ajay Devgn’s planning to direct again

With several hits under his belt, Bollywood actor Ajay Devgn easily proved to be one of the most bankable stars of 2010.

No mean feat, considering that it was a year that saw many biggies, barring a few fail to make an impressive impact at the BO. And the actor, who ended the last year on a high note, has enough reasons to be maha-excited this year too. “Yes, last year was very special for me,” says Ajay. But it has hardly to do with him leading the number game.

“Whether I am number one or someone else is...these things just don’t matter to me. That’s not why I do films. I’m just happy doing my work and coming back home to my family,” he clarifies, adding that what made 2010 special was not his success run alone, but also the new addition to his family, his son Yug. “It was a real busy year and I can’t wait to take my family off on a break. I’ve  hardly got to spend any time with Nysa and Yug,” he adds. But that vacation still seems unlikely any time soon for the actor who’s busy working on his forthcoming films Tezz and the remake of Singham that marks his return as an action star.

“Doing hardcore action films was something that I really missed all this while and I’m glad to return to this fold after so long. After 20 years, it feels like life’s coming full circle. Of course, there’s much more to be done, but it feels good doing an out-and-out action film,” shares Ajay, who’s at present also gearing for the release of his forthcoming Madhur Bhandarkar comedy.

What Ajay’s also looking forward to this year is his return to direction after three years. “Yes, I’ve been working on a script for long now, but each time acting took priority. Now I hope to complete the script this year and turn director again. I actually can’t wait to get behind the camera again,” he reveals. As for the genre, he hints that unlike his directorial debut, which was the romantic U, Me Aur Hum with wife Kajol in 2008, this one is more on the lines of an action adventure.

Unperturbed by the fate of his earlier film at the BO, Ajay says, “No film comes with a guarantee. Besides as an actor I’ve never let the BO status of my film affect me, so why should it affect me as a director,” he adds. And does he hope to cast Kajol in this one as well? “She’s a very talented actor and for that alone, I would cast her in all of my films if I could. But it’s going to be her call,” he smiles.
