Action films galore in 2011

2011 will see these A-listers gear up to kick some serious butt on the big screen.

Action films galore in 2011

The year 2010 saw actors Shah Rukh Khan in an autistic avatar (My Name is Khan), Hrithik Roshan play a paraplegic (Guzaarish) and John Abraham a geek (Jhootha Hi Sahi), while both Ajay Devgn (Toonpur Ka Superhero) and Akshay Kumar (Tees Maar Khan) dished out comic fare.

Aamir Khan’s last outing was a fun film too (3 Idiots), while Arjun Rampal’s last outing was Rajneeti and Abhishek Bachchan had Kheley Hum Jee Jaan Se.

None of these films can be slotted in the action genre, nor can any of these stars be said to have done an out-an out action film of late.

But seems like this year they are ready to rear their tough side and make up for all the badddie-bashing that they missed out in the past few years. And 2011 will see these A-listers gear up to kick some serious butt on the big screen.

So, SRK’s donning his action suits in Ra.One  and Don 2 as is Arjun, John’s flexing his muscles for KhaKha Kha and Hrithik’s back with superpowers in Krrish 2 and Agneepath, Abhishek’s Dum Maaro Dum and Game are action thrillers, and so is Aamir’s film with Reema Kagti.

Ajay too will be seen in the hard-core action remake of Singam, Saif Ali Khan in Agent Vinod and Race 2, and Akshay’s Joker too is touted to be an action adventure.

Says trade analyst Amod Mehra, “While it’s good for an actor to have roles like Guzaarish on his repertoire, let’s face it, the audience wants to see their heroes in action and not suffering from an ailment.”

Trade analyst Komal Nahta agrees, “Action’s always been an important ingredient in making a wholesome entertainer and it was about time that action be given it’s due.”

John admits missing doing any action in a long while.

“Experimenting is good but it’s also good to indulge in some herogiri once in a while,” says the Bollywood hunk. Saif agrees.

“Audiences love to see their heroes play larger than life and beat the baddies,” he says.

“Over the years, we have interjected comedies with action and vice-versa successfully, but doing hardcore action is something else!” says Ajay, adding that he’s looking forward to the experience again!
